Nothing witty, just thankful thoughts

Today is THANKSGIVING! Growing up I never cared much about the Holiday — probably because for 3 years in a row I had miserable cases of strep throat, and I think I associated it with being sick until I was about 17. It was always my mom’s favorite holiday though, so it was a big deal.

There was always drama over what time to put the turkey in, how long it needed to stay in, and EVERY SINGLE YEAR what the protocol would be with the aluminum foil covering it in the oven. Just thinking about this argument is exasperating (Dad always thought it needed to stay on longer and Mom said it needed to come off — or was it the other way around?)

There were always many trips down to the grocery because things would be forgotten, a wild goose hunt for the turkey baster that would last for at least 45 minutes while someone was charged with the task of tearing the kitchen apart, and complete utter chaos at about 6PM when it became clear that the Brussels sprouts weren’t roasting fast enough or that we had forgotten to put the Infamous Broccoli Casserole in the oven…

Anyhow, everything is happening. The BC is in fact in the oven, the sprouts are roasting, the prosecco is flowing, the rest of the family will be arriving in about an hour. And while there seem to be a lot of things that I should be feeling UNgrateful for, I can’t help but focus on what the things that I am.

Things like my friendship with my dad, my two wonderful roommates, shitty hallmark Christmas movies that cheer me up each night, living in the same city as my awesome brother, weekend trips to visit my best friend, my new found love for writing and support and love from people across the world it has brought me (lookin @ you, bloom.words β™₯️), my SUPER AMAZING therapist who is helping me through all of this, my new relationship with one of my mom’s best friends who has become like family to me, the month at home this summer that I was able to be here and take care of my family, and my incredible friends who have shown me more love in the past few months than I ever knew was possible.

There’s a lot to be sad about today, but there’s also a lot to be thankful for. That is all.

July 2018, our last video all together. Something that makes me feel the epitome of thankful.

  1. Awwwww. Aw aw aw. You made me smile, then chuckle, then smile, then chuckle some more, then get a tear in my eye and get a big happy pout face on. You’re the best writer ever. And the best thanker ever. And a ridiculously good COOK by the sound of it, too. #jeals πŸ˜πŸ˜†πŸ‘β€οΈmuch love, friend, and bon apΓ©tit. πŸ₯‚πŸΎπŸ₯•πŸŒ°πŸŒΆπŸ•πŸ—πŸ₯™
